How to Be An Effective Worship Leader

Have you ever been on stage whether at church, conference or concert, and have sang but you're getting no response from the people and you keep going? Well if so, that is a big mistake.

As Christian artists and worship leaders we don't want to be entertainers but we need to be discerning to the atmosphere and to God.

Story
There was an event I went to where there was a man that was was trying to minister during praise and worship. He keep screaming and going on and on for what seemed like forever. He didn't pay attention to the people or the atmosphere and it turned into total spiritual agony. The atmosphere went down like a flaming boulder.

It put such a damper on the service that recovery felt like it was almost impossibe. The people in the audience were like 'what just happened?'. I was so embarrassed for him, that I didn't want to be there to see the destruction taking place.

The sad thing is that he had no clue as to what was happening. He was clueless to the spirit and the atmosphere. And thought what he was doing was ministry.

This was a sad situation that I don't want to see any one else go through. So here are a few things we should pay attention to as christian artists and more so worship leaders.

1.
Pay attention to the spirit of the Lord.
He will never lead you wrong. And who knows what his people needs better than the spirit of the Creator.

2.
Know when what you are doing is not it.
Sometimes we get caught up in the emotion, tricks and runs of a song, that spiritually we are totally missing the mark. There is nothing worse than a insensitive worship leader that won't change what they r doing because of personal agenda.

3.
Know when to change direction.
Sometime you feel a struggle in worship and in most cases that is to be expected due to the nature and the power of worship. The enemy really wants to attack this part of worship because it is in worship that can effect the whole tone of the service.

So when you are leading worship, you want to watch and listen. And even if you have to change the order of the songs or change the songs all together to be conducive for the spirit to have full control...then do it! It is just that simple.

4.
Don't be afraid to fight.
Sometimes when you are singing, you feel a struggle to break through. Well fight! Don't give up so easily. Don't allow the atmosphere to control you, you are to change it (per God's word).

We were not meant to be passive in the spirit. And when it comes to entering into His presence it is sometimes a fight. But even though it may seem hard, don't ever stop. Keep going until you get a break through in worship. It's not just for you but for the people.

5.
Let worship be your lifestyle.
This is not just in song, but in your time with God. Then when you get up to minister it won't be as hard for you, as what it is when you're doing it out of flesh.

God created us to worship him and he wants us to have a lifestyle that reflects his love, kindness and grace. But he also wants us to be wise and discerning in the things of the spirit.

A good worship leader/artist knows when to move in the direction the makes worship effective for the people. Be God-inspired and not you-inspired. Start allowing him to train you as a levitical leader of worship and not just an average everyday singer that leads worship.
